- Remind your child that you counted 12 edges on the cube. Say: We will use one toothpick for each edge. How many toothpicks will we need?
- Touch and count each corner on the box (or block) to show there are 8 altogether. Say: A cube has 8 corners. We will use a small play dough ball for each corner. How many do we need?
- Help your child build the cube in stages:
- Build a square for the base.
- Attach four toothpicks to the corners of the base so they stand up.
- Build the top square and attach it to the four toothpicks that are standing up.
