  1. Say: Point to each claw and count.
  2. Ask: How many claws are on a dog’s paw? Does the dog have fewer than, more than, or the same number of claws as the fingers on your hand? How do you know?
  3. Say: A claw is like a fingernail on our hand. Each claw is attached to one of the dog’s toes. The small claw on the side of the paw (the one that looks like a thumb) is called the dewclaw.
